Pauline Fay Lazarus Award
I am a classically trained Artist working with oil paint and pyrography woodburning. My work is concerned with the rich beauty of culture and the diversity of the wonderful people I surround myself with. My family and close friends are of Scottish, Dutch, Chinese, Korean and Polish heritage, each one of us with stories and languages to share. I am an observer and a storyteller. My paintings consist of portraits, still lives and surrealist landscapes inspired by the mystery of another's life story as well as exploring my own.
My language studies in Dutch, Polish and Mandarin also enhance my artistic practice.
I work as Creative Director at my husband Pascal's company Robustus Woodwork and Joinery, where I oversee projects and create pyrography woodburnings onto our bespoke furniture, and my stand alone art pieces.
Kokoro 心 is my most vast artistic painting endeavour, with it's creation spanning over nearly a decade.
It documents the essence of the heart and personhood, secret passions, journeys, discoveries, joys and losses.
Kokoro in Japanese speaks of the emotional side of the heart and mind.
